Antenna

The antenna picks up the radio signal. Its position and length strongly influence how well a DAB+ radio receives stations.

The antenna is the part of a radio that catches the signal. On a portable radio it is usually a telescopic rod. In a car it may be built into the windscreen or stuck on with an adapter.

dabplus.ch gives straightforward advice: extend the antenna fully, hang it vertically and place the radio near a window. A radio on a shelf at the back of a concrete room is the typical case of poor reception. In Kassensturz tests of DAB+ adapters in 2024, the placement of the antenna was decisive, and an external antenna worked best.

Some radios have a socket for an external antenna. It is worth having if reception is a problem.
