BAKOM

BAKOM is the Swiss Federal Office of Communications in Biel. It awards radio licences and manages frequencies.

BAKOM is the German-language abbreviation of the Federal Office of Communications, based in Biel. In French it is OFCOM and in Italian UFCOM.

For radio, BAKOM awards the FM licences and manages the frequencies. On 18 September 2026 it issued SRG an FM licence valid until 31 December 2034, and in May 2026 it published 20 FM frequency packages in 13 regions for other stations.

BAKOM also publishes a map of radio and television transmitters on map.geo.admin.ch. It shows which transmitters and frequencies can be received at a location, and it is a useful first step when a radio has trouble finding stations.
