FM

FM, frequency modulation, is the analogue radio band used for decades. The German name UKW and the French OUC refer to it.

FM stands for frequency modulation. It is the analogue radio band that most people grew up with, known in German as UKW and in French as OUC. Each station sits on one frequency that you tune by hand or by preset.

In Switzerland the situation is split. SRG stations left FM on 31 December 2024 and are available on DAB+ and the internet. Parliament decided on 9 December 2025 to continue FM, and BAKOM issued SRG an FM licence on 18 September 2026 valid until 31 December 2034. A date for SRG’s return is not confirmed.

The dated record is on the FM switch-off page.
