DAB+
DAB+ is the improved digital radio standard used in Switzerland. It compresses audio more efficiently, so one frequency block carries more programmes.
DAB+ is the version of digital radio that Swiss broadcasters use. dabplus.ch dates its introduction to 2006. The plus refers to the audio coding, MPEG-4 AAC+, which squeezes more programmes into the same frequency block than the original method.
On a radio, the sign is easy to check. The label DAB+ appears on the device or in the manual, and a plus follows the station name on the display. SRF stresses that the words digital radio alone are not enough.
A DAB+ radio also contains an FM tuner, according to dabplus.ch. DAB+ does not work on a smartphone at present.
