Service following

Service following lets a radio switch automatically to another frequency or source that carries the same station when reception weakens.

Service following is a feature that keeps you on the same station when the signal weakens. The radio looks for another way to carry it, such as a different frequency or a different broadcast system, and switches over without you touching it.

It is most useful in a car, where signal strength changes every few minutes. In its 2024 test of DAB+ adapters, TCS noted that all four adapters had service following.

How smoothly it works varies from device to device. A brief gap or a change in sound at the moment of switching is normal. The feature does not make a bad antenna position good.
