Internet radio
Internet radio plays stations over an internet connection instead of over the air, on a phone, computer or special radio.
Internet radio delivers a station over the internet. You need a connection, either Wi-Fi or mobile data, and a device that can play it: a phone, a computer or a radio with a network chip.
The SRG stations are available this way, for example through the RTS Play app and rsi.ch/audio, and swissinfo reported in January 2025 that internet radio’s share of listening had risen to 39 percent in 2023.
Konsumentenschutz mentions radios that combine DAB+ and internet. The advantage of DAB+ alone is that it needs no connection. The advantage of internet radio is that it works with stations from other countries.
