Kitchen radio
A kitchen radio is a small table radio for everyday listening. Its sound quality is often the weak point of cheap models.
A kitchen radio is a compact table or shelf radio meant for a few stations in the background. Many are portable and run on mains or batteries.
Independent tests are cautious about them. In September 2025 Kassensturz tested ten kitchen radios priced between CHF 80 and 130, and only one received an overall rating of good. In April 2018 it had found the same weakness in eight portable DAB+ radios.
Before buying, check the DAB+ label and the antenna, and if you can, listen to the speaker. A kitchen is often a poor place for reception, because it has metal and appliances nearby. The buying guide covers the checks.
